Enjoy serenity in the Pacific Northwest!

Our newly renovated beachfront home and studio cottage have full amenities, a gorgeous 2-acre setting, gardens of indigenous plants, and breathtaking views of Mount Rainier.

Beautiful Pickering is located steps from the beach on Eld Inlet in a quiet forested area, within easy driving distance of Downtown Olympia and multiple National and State Parks. There is something for everyone!

The Property

Explore among wild huckleberry bushes, rhododendron, a rare sequoia, and towering Douglas Fir trees that dot the landscape. Puget Sound’s Eld Inlet is steps from the front door, with lovely beach walking, oysters, and crabs. Mt. Rainier looms large across the water, particularly striking at sunrise and sunset.

Each house has a deck or patio where you can sit and enjoy the view. Wander through the garden of native plants, or head to the beach to watch seals and ducks swim in the bay.

Beautiful Pickering is a perfect setting to try out the Japanese practice of “forest bathing” or shinrin-yoku. The goal of forest bathing (which does not involve actual baths) is simply to be present while in nature, using all of your senses to absorb the environment–including the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors. Benefits include a strengthened immune system, reduced blood pressure and stress, and improved mood and sleep.

Main House

The main house is freshly renovated, with luxury sustainable plank flooring and fresh paint throughout, new gas range & hood and extra-large stainless steel sink in kitchen, new beds, new bathroom fixtures, new rugs and updated furniture, plus a larger eco-friendly composite deck with view-friendly railing. This wonderful update makes this home even more of a perfect retreat.

With 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, the main house can comfortably sleep up to 4 guests. 1 king bed, 1 queen bed, plus 1 sofa bed that can accommodate a 5th guest, for a minimal charge. 2 bathrooms, one with shower/tub combo.

The fully-equipped kitchen, breakfast area, and cozy living room are adjacent to the deck with lounge chairs, outdoor eating space, and a hot tub in the garden.

Studio Cottage

The studio cottage is a cozy 200 square feet with a fully stocked kitchen, newly renovated bathroom with tiled shower, and full sized bed. The dining area is appropriate for remote work or a sweet dinner for two. Outside, a new adjacent outdoor patio has chairs and a table perfect for a pre-dinner snack or a morning cup of coffee.

The cottage is located near the water, with beach access. From the dining table there are lovely views of Puget Sound.

Why “Beautiful Pickering”?

The name “Pickering” has its origin in medieval England. We wanted our family retreat here in the Pacific Northwest to evoke something of old English family estates, where multiple generations resided together, and guests were welcome for long stays. More locally, Pickering Passage, a strait of Puget Sound, runs near the property. Pickering Passage is named for the naturalist Charles Pickering, who was part of an expedition to explore the Pacific in the mid-1800’s. Much of what we love about Pickering comes from its stunning setting, unique to the Pacific Northwest outdoors. The combination of these two historical precedents led us to adopt it as our name.
